Video Intelligence¶
Video Intelligence helps store teams review camera footage, create surveillance events, investigate POS transactions, and connect transaction activity with video evidence.
The visible Video Intelligence menu currently includes:
| Page | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Surveillance | Review, upload, filter, export, and manage store surveillance events. |
| Live View | Watch live camera streams, review playback, create events, and download footage. |
| Transactions | Search POS transactions, review linked video, flag/save transactions, add comments, and create events. |
| POS Transactions | Upload POS source files and review uploaded POS transaction batches. |
Note
Dwell Insights is intentionally not included in the current user guide section because that menu is currently commented out in the documentation navigation.
Access and Navigation¶
Navigation path: Video Intelligence
Required permissions: Video Intelligence pages are shown based on the user's surveillance/video permissions and store access. If a user cannot see these pages, confirm the role has access to the Video Intelligence module and the selected store.
Common Concepts¶
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Camera stream | A live or recorded camera feed for a store. |
| Surveillance event | A saved event with media, date/time, category, priority, tags, employee, and description. |
| Recording | Video footage available from configured cameras. |
| Transaction | POS sale, refund, void, or other register activity. |
| Flagged transaction | A transaction marked for attention or follow-up. |
| Saved transaction | A transaction saved for later review. |
| POS upload | Uploading source POS files so Pixaro can process and show transaction data. |
How The Modules Work Together¶
Video Intelligence is most useful when the modules are used together:
- Live View shows cameras in real time or playback mode.
- Users can create a Surveillance Event from a selected camera/time window.
- Transactions shows POS transactions and matching video.
- Users can create an event from a transaction when it needs investigation.
- Surveillance becomes the central place to review and manage saved events.
- POS Transactions is used when transaction files need to be uploaded for processing.
Backend Flow¶
The Video Intelligence area uses two backend services:
| Area | Backend |
|---|---|
| Surveillance events, comments, employees, checklists, and export | Pixaro API |
| Camera live/playback streams, downloads, transaction search, transaction details, and POS uploads | API Server |
This split matters for troubleshooting. If cameras or transactions do not load, check the API Server. If surveillance events, comments, employees, or checklists fail, check the Pixaro API.
Best Practices¶
- Confirm the selected store before opening Video Intelligence pages.
- Use filters before exporting large surveillance datasets.
- Use Live View to confirm cameras are working before creating events from footage.
- Use Transactions to investigate suspicious POS behavior with video context.
- Use POS Transactions upload only with the correct source files for the selected POS type.
